Home
Phateye.com is a site developed by boaters, for boaters. Our primary objective at Phateye is to provide kayakers and river runners with features, forums, and services that are not currently available to the boating community or to enhance those that are. Our success will be measured by the extent to which boaters are better able to communicate with one another throughout local, national and eventually international boating communities. We openly welcome opportunities to work with others in the boating community including manufacturers, boat shops, other web sites as well as clubs and organizations. Bottom line, if you know of something that Phateye can do to help the boating community, we'd like to hear from you. So please contact us at info@phateye.com.
River Information
The Phateye River Info feature will be an ever evolving feature. Currently it is comprised of customized flow data developed by Chris Webster. Chris, a Phatguy, has developed code that atomatically gathers flow data from various sources throughout the US. The flow levels are then published automatically on the River Info page (and on individual state message boards) and color coded for difficulty at different cfs levels/stages based on the personal knowledge of Phatguys, their friends and feedback from Phateye users (YOU). Please keep in mind that Chris is an old school Colorado boater who rarely boats under flood stage. Levels of difficulty are highly subjective and you should always boat within your personal ability level. The customized flow data can also be personalized and e-mailed to you based on your personal preferences. For more information on E-Phlows (flow e-mails) please click on E-Phlows.
Message Board
The Phateye.com message board has many purposes. First, it is meant to provide an easy to use format for communicating with other boaters in your local community, in your state or region, and nationally. The Phateye message board was developed by Andrew, another Phatguy. When you post a message to the message board you will be given the opportunity to choose in which state(s) the messages are posted. Conversely, you may choose to view messages state by state, region by region, or nationally. This format was developed in recognition of the fact that boaters will most frequently want to communicate with boaters in their immediate community. However, in some cases boaters may benefit from conversations with boaters throughout the US or in other regions and states. For instance, if a Colorado boater, who normally uses the Colorado Message Board, decides to take a trip to California, he or she can quickly and easily post on the California board to ask if any locals are interested in sharing some beta or hooking up for a run. Better yet, the boater can post the same message in Colorado and California to get information from Colorado boaters who have been there and California boaters who boat it every day. If you've got something the whole nation needs to know about, simply post a message to all 50 states.
In addition, we have added local flow data and local links to each state message board so that you have as much information as possible right at your fingertips.
Gallery
The Phateye gallery is another feature that will continue to evolve. Currently we welcome you to submit pictures of you and your friends boating wherever you like to boat. We will be collecting pictures and data to compile a sort of catalogue that will allow boaters to easily search for a particular run or rapid and be able to view the same at different flow levels. Please let us know if you would like to aid in this project. If you have questions about the Gallery or would like to add some pictures, please contact us at info@phateye.com.
Clubs/Groups
If making friends through Phateye message boards and on the river isn't enough and if you want to give something back to the boating community or to the rivers, the Clubs and Groups link will provide you with contacts and information about local and national clubs and groups. There are few things more noble that volunteering and participating in a organization dedicated to the activities that give you joy and satisfaction.
Gear Swap
The Phateye Gear Swap is a great place to buy or sell new and used gear. The Phateye.com Gear Swap is provided and hosted by www.mountainbuzz.com. Items posted for sale on Phateye.com will also appear on Mountainbuzz and items posted on Mountainbuzz will also appear on Phateye. The Gear Swap is searchable and users can easily manage multiple listings.
Links
The Links section on Phateye.com is self explanitory. The true benefit of the Phateye Links section comes from the fact that we have two of the most prolific web surfers that ever walked the earth scouring the web for links that will benefit, amuse and inform Phateye users on almost any topic you might be interested in. We would like the Links page to provide as much information as possible. If you would like Phateye.com to link to your web page, please e-mail us at info@phateye.com.
