Dagger Workers Help in Creek Clean-up

HARRIMAN, TN – An enthusiastic handful of Dagger employees turned out for a waterways clean-up Saturday, May 12. The clean-up was held in conjunction with Tennessee Citizens for Wilderness Planning (TCWP), Keep Roane Beautiful, Tennessee Valley Authority and local citizens. The efforts were concentrated along shoreline in the Whites Creek embayment where Whites Creek flows into Watts Bar Lake. This area located between Rockwood and Spring City, Tennessee is one of many beautiful lakefront areas within Roane County, where Dagger’s manufacturing facility is located.

In four productive hours of wading and bagging trash over a dozen tires were recovered as well as washtubs, molded plastic toys, garden hoses, plastic bags and bottles and styrofoam containers. Four kayaks and one canoe collected over a half ton of trash in addition to the collection efforts of road and trailside teams.

Melinda Andrews of TVA Watershed Management praised the effort as a positive step towards creating partnerships between citizens, activist groups and environmentally-minded manufacturers. “It’s really a wonderful gesture to see a manufacturer supporting grassroots environmental efforts,” she said.

Dagger manufactures a complete line of paddle-powered canoes and kayaks which offer an approach to water sports without noise, pollution or fuel consumption. Paddle sports are a key focus for its employees. Embodied by the paddling community at large is a strong environmental ethic toward preservation and stewardship of waterways.

“This is one of our local bodies of water,” stated Andy Gilliam of Dagger Marketing. “We’re blessed to live around so many rivers and lakes … it feels good to do a little to keep these areas clean for those who follow.”
